Connecting the most rural parts of Britain is a big job.

Reaching our customers means crossing water-logged fields, ploughing through rocky terrain and digging trenches around lochs.

There’s no swishing of wands with little Gigaloch-blue lights on the end, although it would be very cool if there was. Scroll down to find out what really happens when we decide to build in your area.

Our journey to getting you connected

Network design

Planning ahead is incredibly important. We start by learning the ins and outs of the area and drawing up a map of where our fibre connection will go.

Partner with landowners

Next up, it’s time to meet the local landowners and get their permission to thread our fibre ducting through their land.

Survey the ground

Once the first landowner is on side, we’ll carry out a much closer inspection to find the lowest impact way of laying the network.

Bury the ducting

It’s moleplough time! Once everything’s approved by the landowner, we’ll get to work putting the fibre ducting into the ground.

Home installation

We also have a special mini moleplough, operated by remote control, which helps us connect your property to the nearest chamber. Slim, agile and low-impact, this machine is designed with protecting your garden in mind.

Fibre blowing

With the network in place, we use an innovative method called blown fibre, which literally blows the fibre optic cables through the duct and into your home.

Connect the cabinet

And finally, we wait for a major ISP to connect our cabinet to the national grid. It can take 3-6 months for the cabinet to go live, but when it happens, customer connections will follow suit speedily.

Congratulations,
you’ve built a fibre network!

With gigabit internet, land and property will become more valuable, businesses will prosper and lots of aspects of everyday life will become easier and better for many people, which to us, is kind of remarkable. Come to think of it, maybe this is a little bit magic after all.
